The RF Generator In EMC Testing

The RF generator generates a RF voltage with a well-defined frequency and amplitude. This RF voltage (with a max. amplitude of appr. 0 dBm, i.e. 224 mV) is used to drive the RF power amplifier.

A RF generator for EMC testing provides a wide dynamic range (>140 dB) and an excellent low harmonic distortion in output level.

Hence, the RF field can be completely set by setting the RF generator´s output signal.
Modern RF generators provide also various utilities to modulate the output signal. Amongst standard modulations, like amplitude modulation (AM) or frequency modulation (FM), especially the pulse modulation (PM) is interesting for EMC applications.

With that PM you can simulate eg the GSM modulation, like it is used in many european mobile telephones.
