How To Generate RF Fields For EMC Testing

The EMC test system is used to generate electromagnetic fields. In particular cases there are also used electric fields or magnetic fields. These electromagnetic fields, electric fields or magnetic fields are also called RF fields.

In the EMC test set-up shown above the EMC test system includes a RG generator, a RF power amplifier, a directional coupler, a power meter, an antenna and - last but not least - a control computer.
That assembly is a CAN, not a MUST. This means the EMC test system could be changed to perform other measuring tasks.

For example, an electrical field probe could be added and the directional coupler (and the power meter) could be removed to generate electromagnetic fields with the closed-loop method.
